I suppose it was just a matter of time. Even though I am primarily a "jet junkie" I enjoy all the aspects of RC modeling. Actually, the purchase of a Neu 1415 1Y motor for EDF use is what sparked this project after finding the kv rating too high for use in a 100 mm fan on 6s.
This is my 1st venture into building a boat so put RC Groups to good use for this project. There are lots of helpful people out there ready to help a fellow modeler out regardless of his preferences.

Aeromarine Rio Roses RC Boat Build

12/15/09
Just starting after getting in most of the parts. This configuration will change a lot during the course of the build as I learn more.
esc under front deck, motor placed about the canopy bubble and a pair of 4s 3300 packs I could run in parallel.
Cooling sleeve and adjustable motor mount from offshore electrics. 180 amp esc from hobby king.
Yeah, I working on drawing a set of plans for another jet too.

Where the heck do I drill the hole for the stuffing tube?
Running hardware also purchased from offshore electrics.
This is NOT going to work

Even trimmed all the way up to the point of binding the shaft (and bottoming the adjustment screw), it's still too deep of a bite.

By making a wedge I can solve the angle problem on the stinger. A mold is mold made from some pvc house siding I had laying around. (it also makes good wingtip skids).

Mold filled with a mix of 30 minute epoxy and milled fiberglass then allowed to cure.

Thank goodness for RC Groups, I was contemplating drilling this spot for the tube.

The wedge does solve the angle problem. There's plenty of room for angle adjustment now. It's kinda hard to hold pieces in place and shoot a picture at the same time but you get the idea.

12/17/09
After finding the right spot for drilling. Right now I get the best alignment and cg balance with the motor about here and a pair of 2200's in the rear.

Just the brass tube installed for now. Nothing has been cut or permanently attached yet. Time to order more stuff though since I didn't yet have a shaft coupler or prop. Git a ballpark for prop size from fellow modelers on RC Groups.

While waiting for more "goodies" to arrive decided to rework my wedge with some carbon fiber plate I had laying around. After cutting and assembling the parts it was filled with epoxy and glass as before. This time the mold stayed with it though.

None too sure about this either. Even with the bracket butted up tight to the stinger wedge, the rudder seems too far outboard to me. This is one narrow hull.

I can fix this angle with another wedge but it still all seems oversized for this hull to me.

Re-arranging stuff since the balance point has shifted quite a bit after starting to add hardware to the transom. The little black marks (barely visible)show the 30% distance from the transom. Now the motor is about 4" from the tail with a pair of 2650 4s packs at the front of the cockpit.

12/24/09
Another smaller wedge made up for the rudder. The angle on it looks good to me now.

By reversing the bracket and flipping the tiller arm over was able to bring the rudder in closer to the center of the boat. Right now it's just being held on by some double sided tape while I wait for opinions of placement from RCG..

12/25/09
After deciding on a spot for the rudder (1.5" from propshaft centerline) made the steering servo mount from more carbon fiber plate with spruce spacers for the servo screws. Hitec HS225MG servo used.

With everything (hatch too) installed it balances right on the marks with this arrangement. The shaft is cut to size and the motor mount is finally epoxied in place.

After a float test in the bath tub. The water line at rest is at the mark shown in the picture.

Back on familiar ground now. Made up the parallel harness for battery packs. I decided the 180 amp esc was overkill (weight & volume) for this hull and have a 120 coming my way. Once it arrives I can finish the wiring.

Speed control and plumbing installed.

12/29/09
Picked up an inexpensive Hitec Agressor radio from the local hobby shop and got the basic setup done. Still debating on waterproofing for the receiver.

12/31/09
A trip to the local pharmacy and a package of "Magnum" condoms later. (At least it gave me a chance to impress the checkout girl <g>) The rx is sealed and will be attached to the top of the cabin about under the painted black hatch.

It finally gets splashed. The Neu 1415/1Y motor with enough prop to properly load it is too much for the skinny hull to handle though. A double barrel roll in the 1st hundred yards. Click on this photo and it will load the video. (it's big so give it some time)

Just an assortment of video frame grabs from the 1 time out. Going to a smaller prop helped with the handling problems but hurt the speed and acceleration. For a software enhanced zoom and timeline video of the roll segment, click HERE
